OUR FISHING STYLE

Fishing Offshore can be done several different ways.  Over the years, we have found customers enjoy fishing rod in hand, setting the hook themselves and fighting their fish, freestyle with little trolling.

We target Cobia, Snapper, Shark, Kingfish, Wahoo, Tarpon and Grouper this way.  We spend lots of time on the water to ensure you are on fish and not out searching for fish.

We use both conventional round reels and spinning reels depending on if we are pitching live bait into a school of surfacing fish, or deep dropping over a wreck targeting a huge Warsaw grouper.

We do not spend a lot of time trolling unless we are targeting wahoo or billfish.  Expect to have a rod in your hand during your time on the water either casting or dropping to catch your fish.

What to Expect from the Fish:

Red Snapper are normally caught on live bait or cut bait on or near the bottom.  They provide an excellent fight and even better table fare.

We limit out on most trips.

Kingfish are caught drifting near structure like oil rigs or submerged wrecks on fresh bait such as menhaden, sardines or ribbon fish.  They are very aggressive and provide a good battle on light tackle.

Many times we hook 3-4 on at a time while drifting baits.

Blacktip Sharks are extremely acrobatic and will jump 10ft out of the water showing off.

They eat any kind of cut bait fished in chum slicks. We target the larger blacktips in the 60-120lb range.  At times, we also use top water popping lures to catch these amazing fish.

Amberjack are called "reef donkeys" for a reason. This stubborn fish just doesn't want to give up.

Fighting them freestyle is very fun and enjoyable. These fish are caught on live bait such as blue runners or large piggy perch.  We also target them on speed and vertical jigs.

Cobia are a prized catch for us.  We sight fish for these very tasty fish.  It's hard for a Cobia or "Ling" to pass up a small live bait pitched in front of them on light tackle.  If you hang one, be prepared for a fun, exciting fight.  They will swim right up to the boat before you hook them.

Wahoo are pelagic in nature and typically stay in deeper blue water.  We catch them drifting large menhaden or blue runners on deep drop offs and ledges as well as trolling lures.  Cooler water temperatures help larger concentrations of these fish group together.

They are incredibly tasty and provide a great tug on rod n' reel.

Tarpon.  Yes, there are Tarpon in Texas and more importantly Port O' Connor just might be the Tarpon "Capital" of Texas.

These fish provide unmatched pull and drag runs on rod n' reel.  From 5ft-100ft we target these fish both on live bait and large artificial swim baits. These fish are extremely acrobatic and a lifetime catch.
